I'm fairly new...got a question about infections...

dpitch13 Jul 13, 2004 03:16 PM

Hey all. I've been browsing the forum for a couple months now, posted a couple times, but never really introduced myself. My name's Darren and I decided to get an Arg. B/W in late May from LLLReptile. I'm down in southern California for anyone else who is in the area.

Just today I noticed a white substance accumulating around his eye. I know it is a popular place for infection to breed, but I'm not sure if it's an infection, or simply some calcium that fell to the way side. Here's a picture. Thanks for any insight.

It looks to me like it is calcium powder maybe? Does it rub off? Does your tegu seem annoyed by it at all? Some signs of infection on the body are: sleeping a lot, higher body temp, drooling, and not eating well. This is just in general, but does apply to tegus. I have seem infection in my own tegu, turned out to be an abcess that the vet had to rupture. The symptoms I described above were displayed by him. The picture is a little blurry, but I know my tegu gets calcium all over him when he eats, so maybe thats it.
