stressed jacksons

ooenigmaxx Jul 13, 2004 05:05 PM

I've had me Jackson's Cham for a week now and he seems stressed most of the time especially when I'm around. He's eating great and drinking fine. I have a repti-vine and a small fake ficus plant hanging from the vine and a regular ficus plant in the terrarium. Is there anything I can do to make him feel more comfortable?

Where in your house are you keeping him?

Are there other animals?

It usually takes a while for him to settle down and feel comfortable.

If he's eating and drinking, don't worry too much. Just let him
acclimate.

I agree. He really needs to adjust to his new environment - and you. Think of it this way - from his point of view: some other big creature had him and then he ended up with you, another big creature, who put him in another new home. Before the last one you don't know how often or how many big creatures he had been with or if he'd been snatched from the wild and just flew in after a whirlwind tour of the globe. So, don't you think you would need a little down time? LOL!

I know it is VERY tempting to want to hold him and have him climb on you and make him happy, but he will be happier if you let him do what he wants to do - especially in the beginning so he knows that this big creature isn't going to pass him off to another one.

if he's eating and drinking he'll be ok...it took my jax about 2 weeks to feel comfortable when i switched him to his new, larger cage.

Don't be tempted to re-situate the cage thinking that will make him happier (i did), it will only make the break in process longer...have the same daily routine and keep your time in his territory to a minimum...before you know it he'll be plucking roaches off your arm, lol

Actually in the last day or two he seems really comfortable is green as can be. I just added another fake ficus plant to his cage and since then he's been doing great. I guess he just needed time like you guys said.
