mystery snake from no where!

cmsuphoto Jul 13, 2004 06:13 PM

Ok, very confusing story here, but I need some help. Today I looked in my incubator and found a hatchling corn. Just laying there. Looked up at me and said hello. Cute little guy. Problem is, I never saw an egg pip, still can't find an egg pipping, and there's no empty egg! I'm so confused! However, yesterday I did clean out the incubator and got rid of a moldy clump of eggs that were bad, or so I thought. Is it possible that I missed one I guess, but wow, that'd be one heck of a miss! The thing is, the eggs that were "bad" were laid April 13th, and well, it's July 13th, and they looked all gross. Has anyone had snakes take 90 days to hatch?? And if not, did this come from an egg that I can't find?? THe other clutch that's in there was laid May 16th, so that's about the right time table, but why wouldn't the others pip already? and why can't I find the empty egg?!?!?

p.s. he's a cute little normal.

Kathy Love says in her book that there was a record of a snake taking 120 days to hatch. I've also seen some photos of some pretty nasty looking eggs that still gave rise to babies. I hope for your sake and the sake of any potential babies, that the eggs were truely bad when you threw them out.

Does the snake look particularly small? Could it be a twin and the other twin is still inside the egg, making you think it's hasn't pipped yet?
