update on very green stool

gothra Jul 13, 2004 06:25 PM

I took Bambi to the vet yesterday; he said the bile part doesn't look that bad actually, it usually happens when a leo is not eating; however, he said the urate looks a bit yellow which could be a liver problem. He won't do a blood test coz it requires too much blood, so he gave her antibiotics (Baytril) for a week, hoping that will fix the problem.

For the no eating part, he gave Reptoboost to soak her in, 30 minutes daily for a week, that will stimulate her appetite. Anyway I am going to feed her some babyfood tonight; so she gets something in her stomach.

sounds good. glad you got her to a vet. My peaches had crystalized urates, which was caused by her kidney disease. It was also yellowish. My leos seem to like the veal baby food. Did he give you some syringes to feed her with? Keep her hydrated, too. When mine are sick, I put them on paper towel, which i keep damp most of the time. Esp. with the antibiotics, my vet said they can be really dehydrated. Make sure to mix some calcium into the baby food too. Try to get just calcium if you can, b/c baby food already has most other nutrients. Good luck and keep up the good work! Keep us posted here!

when you say 'crystalised urate', do you mean sand grain like matter in the urate? Sometimes, I can see these in my other leos' urate, not much, about 4-5 grains scattered at the end near the faeces. Is there any other symtom that I should look for in case of a kidney problem? Thanks.

I just fed Bambi, she ate about 0.7ml of baby food (peas and carrot). It took a lot of time getting her to lick from the syringe; does that sound about the right amount or should I give her more?

This is Bambi in May, she lost 8g since then.

for a 10g juvie my vet said she should eat about .1 to .2 three times a day!! I only fed once a day (that's all I have time for, so she will take up to about .5, and then she's really full. Keep track!! She probably could take more, but they'll let you know when they're full. Just watch her weight closely. And, um, no offense, but, what are you doing with peas and carrots?? Leos are carnivores. Get some meat baby food. You need to get turkey, chicken, beef, pork or veal. Mine seem to like veal the most, but try and see what Bambi likes.

She weighs 50g now; used to be 64 though. With the 'pea and carrot' thing, I forgot they are carnivores, I was thinking that I feed the mealworms carrots, so I got something similar...oops. This one has pretty high protein content though; maybe I'll get a chicken one tomorrow.

By the way, she just passed a bit of bile again; no urates this time. I hope she'll get better after eating the baby food.

I hope so too. When peaches had her crystals, it was light yellow color, and instead of the usual white blob that should be urine, she would poop runny, and all of the urates would be crystals. Sort of like fine sand, yeah. But all of it was crystals. Also, her kidneys were VERY large for her size. Look under Bambi on her belly just to the front of her pelvic bone. If you can see two large lumps, one on each side, I would be worried. Sorry I don't have a picture for you. Why can't your vet do the blood test? Mine couldn't, but that's cause peaches was only 10g, there wasn't enough blood in her. Babmi certainly looks big enough.
