New Baby RF - He's sick, I need advice

rhombus Jul 13, 2004 09:44 PM

I just recently purchased a Baby Red foot from a dealer. He was airshipped to me and sustained some damage during shipping. His beak on the left side of his face is crack straight up to the nostril. Plus a vet visit has confirmed that he has an upper respirtory infection and really gunky eye that the vets think are from the infection. He is getting an antibiotic shot every other day for a total of five doses. Plus eye drops 3-4 times a day for seven days. He ate a little right when he came in but has refrained from doing so since. I have offered Romaine, dandalion greens, musk melon, strawberries, and Ecto-therm yummies Forest Tortoise. I have also been soaking him in a electrolyte/appetite stimulant everyday for half an hour. What other tricks can I try to get him to eat. Any suggestions would be great. I have been waiting to get a RF for years now and am not going to let him go with out a fight.
Thanks a lot!
~Cory

i just about got a lump in my throat readin about your little baby... i'm so sorry! i'm glad he's getting veterinary attention. as for his "hunger strike," i've heard that more colorful foods can be more attractive to picky eaters, but you already said that you're trying dandelions and strawberry. maybe he can't smell so well because of his illness, and that could be affecting his appetite? or maybe his beak hurts?

GOOD LUCK with the little one, and keep us posted -- don't give up!
