Snakes And Snake Hunting by Carl Kauffeld

Keith Hillson May 14, 2003 10:05 AM

A great great book ! Classic tales of snake hunting from the 30's thru the 50's . This book was reprinted a few years ago and you can still find original copies out there as I did mine in a second hand bookstore. Get this book and you will be glad you did as its great to hear about snakes in their wild habitat instead of their captive habitat .

Regards

Keith

If you like Kauffeld's style, you may like Paul Freed's new book, OF GOLDEN TOADS & SERPENTS' ROADS (2003) - - - it's a little like an international version. Zoo Book Sales in Minnesota should have a stack of them for sale soon.

I read Snakes and Snake Hunting in the late '60s. Still have it.

Kauffield also wrote another one called Snakes: The Keeper and the Kept. It was first published in 1969. I don't know if there are reprints of this one or not. It was another great book. I still have that one also.

I love The Keeper and the Kept! My parents bought me a copy of it in the late 70's. I loved it then and still do know. I take it out every yr or so and re-read it....it never gets old!
My only regret is that Kauffeld was a little to detailed in describing his locations, many of which now have suffered from over collecting.
All in all, a fantastic book!
Cheers, Bill
