lol, we just finished the new 40 gallon enclosure for my single little normal female. We only realised how big it was after we got her in there running around, so we have dubbed it the "mansion"! I'm thinking about getting her another girlfriend, but shes been on her own for 6 years, any thoughts on how she would accept another? i would try to get an adult or wait untill they were the same size, but is it possible at all? anyways, enjoy the pics!

Oh wow, that's huge! I'm sure your little gal is loving every inch of it.

It's always so much fun to get another leo, so it's really up to you. Your girl probably won't have any territorial issues with a roommate as long as you clean and rearrange the tank furniture. Just make sure you quarantine any new leos in its own tank for at least 3 months to make sure it's healthy.

That's really nice setup; I want to add a higher platform for my leos too. What's the substrate you are using there?

would you consider an older female? email me if so.

Did you follow instructions from somewhere on how to build this? Or was it a do-it-yourself project? I'd be interested in knowing how it was built and what all is inside if you have time to share... or email me. It looks awesome!

Well it was definatley a DIY project! we never made up any real plans that i could send to you, but i can do my best to do a step by step guide (but keep in mind I an SOOOoo tired at the moment, you might need some of this clarified, feel free to ask any questions)

1) Size! I used an aquarium calculator and just played with niumber untill i found one that was almost 40 gallons (approx. 25x13x35...or something like that) or whatever size you want
2) purchased clear-ish corrigated plastic from home depot for about $13 CDN
3)construced box to above mesurements, seal with non-toxic hot glue and silicone
3.5) lol ok so i forgot one and i was too lazy to re number! cut out a hole on top of the plastic slightly larger than your heat lamp and where you want it to sit(if you use one....)
4)added the ramps with extra plastic, attached with hot glue
5)covered ramps and bottom with LOOP FREE astroturf, making sure to seal EVERYTHING, so feeders do not get into it, and it dosent fray
6) the tricky part! construct a wooden frame around the plastic for added support. make sure you leave the wood at the front past the plastic so a slit can be made to slide the plexi glass front into (the most expensive part, $30 local plastics store.) make sure it all fits rather snugly. attach heavy screen (that can withstand the heat of your lite) on top, partially under the screen. attach the plastic box to the frame using nail gun (it would be very difficult to hammer on your own:P)

OK, so i thnk i confused my self with that, let me simplify it a bit more. Make Plastic Box - Make ramps and cut a hole for lamp - cover up the ramps/floor- Make Wooden frame- make slit on the front for slididng in the cover- nail box into frame - Cover lamp hole with screen- OK, thats really simple.

now just cut the plexi glass to the desired shape (make sure to leave a handle) you could also do a two pannel horozontally sliding door thingy, but it looked to difficult for me. then decorate and enjoy!

Thanks for the instructions!!! I'll have to take a closer look tonight... I'm rushing to get off to work now. What kind of decorations are in there? Did you buy everything like that or was some of it DIY?

Thanks again!

Most of the silk plants came from a local craft store, the tricky part it positioning them just right to make it look as real as possible. the log and the humid "hampster" hide are from petsmart. the humid hide (hard to see, hidden behind the giant leaf on the bottom right) is actually a hampster acessory, made out of a coconut with the husk still on, but carved out to make a little house, i filled it with bed-a-best- and used it as the humid hide, it holds moisture very well, she seems to like it, and it's prettier than a plastic container. The rocks in there all have their very own story! I have picked them up on various hikes and camping trips i have gone on, then boiled them for sanitary reasons before using them.

**I forgot something on the DIY instructions! lastly you should drill some holes near the top for ventaliation, and you can also put holes in to hang some plants from if you want!

Another DIY project i have done is my 50 gallon Tree frog enclosure. it cost me even less than the leo one because i didnt use plexi glass. i got an old canning cupboard form a flea market, made an insert out of corrigated plastic, and replaced the glass front with screen. very simple, and cheap! one thing to make sure of is that it all closes securley, this is why the plastic is great, it has a bit of give to it, so you can assure that there will be no escapes. I'll attach a pic of it, i also have a few more pics of it in my gallery.

Thanks for all the info! It looks really great. Does your gecko climb around on it all? And I noticed someone else asked the same "last" (I think) question that I had too... what's the substrate in there?
