i recently bought an african pixie frog (Pyxicephalus adspersus), aka: african bullfrog, from my favorite local petstore. it is a young pixie, only about 3" long. when i was selecting my frog, i was looking for one with the yellow throat, indicating that it is a male, but they only had ones with the cream colored throats which indicate females. everything on the internet i have been able to find regarding the differences of the sexes points to the size and the throat color.. but, pixie frogs start out dark with green stripes and they grow into the pale green coloration.. my question is, do males have the yellow throats as froglets or as their color changes to that of a mature male, does the yellow appear on their throat?..
