Question for you good Thamnophis people.

thurockk Jul 14, 2004 08:38 AM

Hi,
I have never kept any garters before, but a situation has presented itself and I need some info. Last night I picked up a roadkill Thamnophis sirtalis who was very pregnant. I took her home and opened her up. I was able to save 5 of a clutch of 24 little ones. I need to know what to feed these little guys once they decide to eat. There is still a small remenant of the umbilical cord, but no visible yolk. All five are very active moving and tongue flicking. I keep ratsnakes, milksnakes, and turtles. Husbandry isnt a problem, what to feed these little guys is all I need to know. Thanks in advance

Bryan

Congrats on the good deed you did. After all the babies shed, you can start offering them small feeder fish, like guppies or some worms. You may want to split them up so that you can monitor each one, plus they won't fight over food this way.
