What kind of pyhton

gsnake Jul 14, 2004 09:15 AM

Hi! Im new to this forum and have two questions . I`ll be keeping a python soon and just need to know which would be best to start with , ball python or children`s python . I came across an amtyhshrine python (sry if spelling is wrong) at a store the other day and it seems quite nice and active , but ive never heard of that species before . Looking forward to hear all the experts` advice , thanx!

Scrub python are not good for your first python. They are large and can be aggressive. A captive bred ball python or a childrens python are good choices. Childrens pythons max out at less than 3ft and once started eating have no feeding problems. Ball pythons are typically 3-5ft and once started on mice or rats feed pretty well. They do sometimes fast in winter. Spotted pythons are similar in care to childrens but max out at 3-4ft. Whatever you decide to go with, do you homework first( read books search the net). Then you will know what you are getting into.
