golden gecko laying on bottom of cage

sabaci Jul 14, 2004 11:09 AM

Is it normal for my sons golden
gecko to be on the bottom of his cage?
We just purchased him yesterday.
I was concerned that maybe the change
of environment stressed him out.

Also,I asked the man at the pet shop about how much light he needs his answer was keep it on during the day off at night. Is this what we should do? I worry he will get cold at night.

Thanks in advance,
Andrew & mom

what I recomend for this golden gecko is to put mabye something around the glass for like 2-3 days so no one can see him and he can get over his stress. Yes its normal for it to be at the bottom of the cage of you just got him, and yes turn the light out at night they need the temps to change at night and day.

If you wish, you can get a night time heating lamp, but I would say that you only need that if the temperature drops below 70.

I second that. I have two myself and my light is on a timer so it is on about 10-12 hours a day and off the rest of the time at night. They need the light off because this species of gecko is nocturnal! It is impotant and the temp. at night should be 75-80 F.
