Baby Burm not eating.

matthew Jul 14, 2004 11:53 AM

hey guys,
we ordered 2 CB Burms from Ben Siegel about 2 weeks ago. 1 is doing AWESOME! eating adult mice every 3 days. the other one hasnt eaten yet. getting a bit worried, because it doesnt look as if he has ever had a meal. he crawls all over the cage. we have them on Aspen, nice warm basking spot. hide box, water big enough for the them to soak in. like i said he is VERY active but when i put him in a different container to feed him he just leaves the mouse alone. i have tried live and F/T. any ideas on what to do? he is not emaciated... just getting a little worried about it.

Try feeding inside the cage, just put down a couple layers of newspaper to cover the cage while he eats. And you can also give him some time it has only been 2 weeks let him adjust. Also if they are housed together this might be causing some stress. Alot of factors could go into why he/she is not eating.

Reply with more info and anyone else say what you think.

i dont think it is stress from the other Burm. the other one just sits under the warm hide almost all the time. it comes out to drink and soak. thats about it. i tried feeding in the cage yesterday, nothing happened. i'll give it some more time. just want the little guy to start eating regularly.

Does it look like hes getting ready to shed? I got a retic that took about a month before he took his first meal with me, and after he shed, he has resumed eating like a pig. I wouldnt worry for a few more weeks though. Give him some time to settle down and I would definitely separate them. Even though the other may just sit there, it is still going to have an effect. Also, if you dont have a hiding spot for him, get one. This may be why he is so active, and could also help him feed.

Good luck
