Male, Female ratio?

Rouen Jun 21, 2003 02:07 PM

what's a good M/F 3 toed box turtle ratio?
I have 1.1 right right now,
which is better; 1.2 or 2.2 or 1.3?

A good ratio would be around 1.3. To many males will stress females out, and the males will sometimes fight other males, specially during breeding season.

I have a male that won't leave the females alone and they r currently in a 1.2 group.

I find three-toeds to be quite amicable and to not over stress the gals that much. I have 2.3, my males do some ritual battles in the spring but nothing serious, and they do not over stress my ladies. I would keep the number of males low, a pair is good for some competition, but too many and you might have odd rivalries that get more than the ritualistic combat. I'd definately outnumber the males, and if you can, go for at least 1:2 male to female. Anything higher is always better (higher females).
