Compact florescent bulbs with UV, good or bad?

jrbl Jul 14, 2004 03:46 PM

Hi,
I have seen those new compact florescents with UV and they look pretty good, but I don't know that much about them. Does anyone know how long they last? I know normal compacts can last like five years, but I don't know how long the UV radiation would last on these. Has anyone used these? Pros, cons? Thanks for the help, jrbl

The bulbs on compact fluorescents do last a long time, but I have heard because of deterioation of the beneficial wavelengths one has to replace the bulbs every 6 months.
I do know from experience in using compact fluorescents with my aquariums that they do run hotter than normal fluorescents.
