hypo kings in classififieds/ kerby

sigbboy Jul 14, 2004 05:54 PM

I went and found that add for hypo Cals in the classifieds. I agree with you that they are not, I think. The picture isnt the best but they do look awful dark (normal)I have some from Gerald and mine look nothing like that or the ones that Vivid(?) sells from the pics I have seen. I have never seen one of thiers in person so once again I could be wrong. Brian from BHB sells what he calls "copper kings" we thought they might be the same but he doesn't think they are related to Geralds. I hope to see him in Chicago this fall and maybe he will have examples of his at the show. Do you know if this is true? I was told that the ones from Vivid were started from naturally occuring animals in southern Cal while I know the others are from northern cal.

Randy, looking at cal kings (hypo) and comparing that to Corns (hypo) is confusing. In Corns it's easy to see the definition of hypo, in cal kings - I'm not convinced - YET.

I would like to see a breeding of Blue-eyed Blondes to Lavenders. If they are 2 different genes, then the offspring will be normal looking and double hets.

Cal kings are quite variable in color, so when Lavender is bred into those different color phases, then you end up with different looking Lavenders. Is Blue-eyed Blondes a result of this?

Sooo.... this year I bred a Lavender to an Albino High White - I should get normals that are double hets. Breed those back to each other and 1/16 will carry both traits - A Lavender Albino High White. How different will that look? Will we be able to see the difference?

I guess I dont breed/ know that much about genetics in reptiles to be able to answer your questions in the two posts. I was interested in finding out the history of the other "blue eyed blonds" that Vivid sells. If I knew that they came from wild caught stock and the original W/C adults looked like the offspring I might be interested in some. If they are derived from x amount of captive years of inbreeding with other morphs then I have no use for them. Yes, I understand some different breeding took place in the wild to create the ElDarado Hypos but that was natures doing. I guess I will never be answer the questions since I wont clutter my collection with a bunch of inbreed stuff these breeders are putting out nowdays
