Does anyone here let their chams roam free?

Atomikk Jul 14, 2004 07:11 PM

I have two of five chameleons right now that roam free around the house. My male veiled (3 years old) has been 'freelancing' for close to 2 years now (and LOVES it). My other cham is my Nose Be, who of all things LOVES my kitchen! He sits on this kitchen rack/storage unit for most of the day. He also wanders back to his setup in the cage to go to sleep. He has been like this for close to a year. He is so tame, you would never believe he could be that way. Plus, he is ultra receptive to any of my offerings (food and/or water). For UV he basks next to a window (which is open during the morning and mid afternoon) on a hanging basket. When he is ready to come off, he either climbs down the palm thats right next to it or streches out asking me to help him back to his kitchen spot.

I am writing this to find out if more people resort to this kind of cham keeping. Please share your stories and/or pics. I will get them soon and will post them here.

I let a female veild roam most of the day i have an old fish net draped from the corner to a window i think she enjoys her freedom...lol
once or twice a day she will come over to me and crawl on my head telling me to feed and or water her

I have my ambanja female on a free range 6 foot ficus in my living room. She does liek to travel aroudn alot. Dont know if this has any relation with her set up, but she is the tamest and freindliest chameleon i have.

See, that is the way I feel about my two free range chameleons.. The more they are exposed to us, humans, they are more comfortable around us. Also, recognition (i think) plays a lot in their behaviour patterns. Plus, when they dont have any restrictions, ala mesh cage, they act less defencive and are more tolerant towards us.

I AGREE WITH YOU TOTALLY

My pair of melleri roamed free in their own bedroom. They had their own mini forest of potted Ficus trees and I humidified the whole room. Hung lights from the ceiling. For a Chammy Gate I just used a smooth piece of cardboard they couldn't reach over.
