Was that catfish dead? Dying in the attempt to swallow the ball?

Kerby he didnt die.I wasnt there. My sister sent me the pic and background on it.They got the ball out and the flathead lived.
If he was dead he would have been belly up.When I fish I find crappies that have choked to death on other fish.I use to manage a couple of lakes and made the mistake of getting albino catfish. They were between 6-9 inches and the bass were tearing into them and choking to death on them. The sad part was most of the albinoes lived after I pulled them out only to kill another bass.Yes,I have a slow learning curve. That was a nice flathead.
When I do fish for those monsters It's catch and release only. They taste like raw sewage anyway not to mention a 60 year old flathead is probally loaded with heavy metals and pesticide run off. This March I will be fishing for monster blues and flatheads. The cool thing is it's in a warm water discharge area and the watersnakes will be out in the 80 degree water while there is still some snow on the ground.cya Kerby..
