Dora went to the cooler side of her cage, is this a good sign???

ladromar Jul 15, 2004 01:33 AM

My baby python has been sick of Respiratory disease, and tonight when I went to check on her, I tried to look for her underneath her rock (no, it's not a heat rock) I couldnt find her there,(that's the warmer side) she has been there ever since she got here (I've had her for 4 days) and so I looked on the cooler side of the cage, and there she was. I gave her some water and I put her back in there. So is this a sign of her getting better? that she is looking for a diff body temperature? I have her warmer side at 89-92F and Humidity in between 65 and 78%. I am going to try to feed her again tomorrow.(she hasn't eaten anything)

P.S. what are the chances of her surviving the R.I.???

anyfeedback GREATLY appreciated.

Omar

If she's sick and you're unsure what's going on get her to a vet. How do you know it's an URI if you don't even know not to try and feed her for at least a week? Did you buy this snake with a disease? Did the seller tell you it was sick? Were you trying to rescue it? Some of your post sounds a little odd.

I'd tell you to take her to a vet but you need to clear some of this info up before anyone can give you good advice.

I've been posting messages here for may be 3 days on and off, and in the messages I specify the whole story on Dora. I know you are not suppoused to feed them for at least a week so they can get used to their new home and so on, However the store that sold it to me said she was eating ok and that I should try to feed her because it was about time since last time she had eaten.

Okay, I'll forget about the background and trust that it makes sense. If I were you I'd forget about what the pet store tells you. The general rule of thumb is to not feed or handle unless necessary for at least 1-2 weeks. A lot of pet store personnell don't know what the he$$ they're talking about and only make things worse. I mean think about it for a second. Here's your statement.

"I know you are not suppoused to feed them for at least a week so they can get used to their new home and so on, However the store that sold it to me said she was eating ok and that I should try to feed her because it was about time since last time she had eaten."

First you state you know you're not supposed to feed for a week but then turn around and say the pet store told you to. Is the general rule of thumb to not feed for a week if the snake isn't eating? No, it's "don't feed for a week" period, regardless of if the snake is ready to eat again or not. This right here should tip you off the pet store employee simply doesn't know what he/she's talking about.

I hope you stop listening to the petstore and listen to the people who have actually done some research and cared for these animals.

Good luck with her, I hope she gets better!!

I guess I'll do that, I 'll keep you posted on her, and thanks for your comments.
