Nova, 4 year old female climbing her favorite tree

georgio Jul 15, 2004 01:40 AM

I'm sad as I am in the process of finding her a home. She's been having fun this summer though...weather's starting to pick up here in southern california. She's grown so much since I took her in a year ago. Here's a picture of her climbing her "basking tree" in our backyard.

She is beautiful and looks so great in that tree!!

I'm just wondering how it is that you are able to let her climb trees without her running away. How do you get her down?

Well, first of all, the tree is not very tall and is in the middle of the yard, so it does not "touch" any other trees for her to jump to. Second, it has been a year of gradually bringing her outside, first with leashes. As long as dogs are not around now, she does well outside. Sometimes casually moves towards places she's not supposed to go (like too high up a tree or attempting to climb the fence) but she never "runs", I can just go pick her up and put her in a different place. The yard is also surrounded by a high wall that would be difficult (I know not impossible) for her to climb which I think (it has never happened) would give me enough time to grab her if she was spooked. In the mornings when she's cold I can go outside with her and she will just sit for 45 minutes or so. But once she heats up I follow her around as she wanders just in case. Her cage is not big enough for her (3'x3'x4') so she really enjoys getting outside to stretch and get some excercise.

That's awsome! Thanks for the info. I would love to be able to take Spike out, but I live downtown right now.

Thanks,
Shanna
