Water proofing a cage?

drykilllogic83 Jul 15, 2004 02:13 AM

As I have mentioned in previous posts, I am building a two-story cage made out of plywood. I am wondering what is the best way to waterproof the cage. On the bottom floor I am using this concrete material that is used for laying out kitchen tiles. So I don't have to worry about water proofing the floor but what should I use for the walls? A couple ideas I have had is using external house paint or clear coat paint for decks. I am not sure if those methods would be toxic for my tegu though. Please help me out. thanks again guys

I haven't built my own cage yet, but I read to coat the wood with 3-4 coats of polyurethane, and then seal the seems with silicone.

Yeah, that's what I am doing right now, polyurethane and silicone. Only thing to be careful, let the polyurethane dry out for 2-3 days and then add the silicone, then let it dry 24 hours. This prevents any fumes or anything from harming the herp.
