National Herp Society will help fight I.B.D.!!!

thesnakeman Jul 15, 2004 11:18 AM

During my recent visit to the F.I.R.E. Show in Orlando, I was there for about six hours, so I spoke with a lot of people! The response was overwhelmingly FOR the idea of a National Herp. Society. One person gave me a new idea. This organization would also be able to help in the fight against I.B.D, and that would be a part of the charter. This is looking better all the time. I am going ahead with it, just as soon as I can get a website, I will let you all know.

...while IBD is certainly a growing problem, I tend to think that fighting for our right to even keep snakes is a much more serious threat to our hobby than disease. If you think about it, what good is promotion of IBD prevention when there are no snakes that can be kept?
I mean no offense, just wanted to make a suggestion.

We do not have the "RIGHT" to keep snakes. We are allowed to by privledge. Thats why we have to fight that much harder. And fighting to keep that privledge alive will be the top priority of this outfit. The I.B.D. thing, is just one more reason to have this organization.

We have a lot of powers against us,...it's high time we had something to work FOR us!

Sorry, but if the animal rights activists have you convinced that keeping snakes is a privilege that must be granted, we've lost half the fight. We have a right to the persuit of happiness. Basically if that persuit does not infringe on others, the government cannot just take it away. Irresponsible reptile owners can be addressed without affecting the vast majority of us.

Well put, I could not agree more! If keeping reptiles as a hobby is a privillage then I don't beleive we have any rights left at all. that would be pretty lame to live in a so called free country and have our "privillages" infringed upon so easily.
