about 500 to 1000!! The funny thing is i never put more than about 10 in at a time. They started breeding about a month or so ago and are still going strong and multiplying thus my infested enclosure. lol

>>how deep should the soil be?

For hatchlings and juvys i give from a few inches to a foot of substrate.
>>whats the regular humidity?

80 to 90 percent!
>>have retes stack

Great!
>>how many crickets/mealworms per feeding?

Until it no longer shows signs of hunger.
>>how much ground turker per feeding?

Same as above but its best to stick to whole prey items.
>>should the water bowl take up almost half the tank?

Not necessarily but it should be large enough for the monitor to climb in and soak but not deep enough for it to drown.
>>is one twenty degrees too hot or fine?

No, not for (surface) temps but yes for (air) temp!
>>is decomposed granite good for the substrate?

Excellent!!!
>>when should i handle him if he arrived yesterday?

After about a month.
>>how long per day should i handle him?

Thats debateable. In my oppinion the best approach to taming monitors is to gain their trust by feeding regularly, doing cage maintenance with out bothering it(making it feel threatened) and eventually it will come and investigate you which will possibly lead to handling.

Thank you so very much, also...I know that they aren't aboreal lizards, I have adults, but do they need a good climbing branch in there somewhere?

Also I am starting to build a juvinille cage, it is going to be 6ftL, 3ftH, and 3ftW, is that okay for a juvy? If it isn't what do you recommend?

I'd say all juvenile monitors in general should be offered climbing branches as well as an enclosure that sits up off the ground. The branches help to speed their acclimation by making them feel more secure. They escape predators in the wild by climbing trees.

It doesn't sound bad as long as you add alot of hides, plants, etc. In my experience with juvies they tend to do better when theres not alot of open floor space.

What are the demensions of your current cage in the pix?

Firstly, i think that hatchlings and juveniles do better in smaller enclosures so i tend to build 2- one to last about 6 months and the other to be a permanent home. So that pic you saw is the first which is 5'x3'x3' . The second i purchased actually from a feed store and its a 10' circular galvanised trough that i may or may not use since im also considering using a spare bedroom instead.
