egg question

boaluvr123 Jul 15, 2004 02:11 PM

I have two bearded dragons , both are about a year and a half old
and the layed eggs on the 24th of may , first of all when do u think these eggs will be hatching . THere were ten in the clutch and all ten have stayed nice and round until about two days ago , when i noticed some of them started having dents in them , while others stayed the same as always. Why would this be happening? , Im new at breeding beardies , so forgive me if this is a no brainer question. I hear that they take about two months to hatch , so do u think that they will be getting ready to hatch , and this is just a sign of it? Thank u for you help
John

Incubation averages around 60 days or so (sometimes longer), so if they were layed on May 24th they should be due sometime late July to early August. The denting could be a couple of things, one is the humidity may not be high enough in which case add a little water to the substrate and that should fix it. Another possibility is before they hatch the eggs can start to sweat and dent a bit, this can happen for a couple weeks before hatching but is usually shorter. Everything you said sounds normal so far, wouldn't worry about it at this point.

temperature & humidity are the two major factors that determine the length of incubation so we can't tell you when they will hatch.
The average is in the 60's (days that is) I have heard of it being from day 54 to day 79.

Your eggs could be collapsing because of several reasons.
Most likely being not enough humidity. Try adding some water to what ever you are using for your incubating container.
They may be getting ready to hatch. They collapse 1 - 3 days before hatching.
Or they may have gone bad for some reason???

Good luck.
