I am not sure if you know, the August Reptiles magazine makes mention of big headed (platysternon megacephalum)turtles in their article on turtle conservation which begins on page 52 and is titled: "Saving the World's Tortoises & Freshwater Turtles".
I am thinking that it is quite possible that big headed turtles are a threatened or endangered subspecies of turtle. If anyone knows, please enlighten me. I will try to find out about that as well.
You may also want to check our Classified section for turtles.
I also like to tell people to contact the closest herpetological club or society to see what might be available through their adoptions officer. Your local wildlife/turtle rescue is another good source for turtles. These turtles are unreleasable and need good homes.
Take care and best wishes
Threatened or not, I've seen 'em at the all Ohio show, so they can't be too hard to find. Now I'm just not sure if buying them is ethical or not.
