i know some of you are familiar with Zeph, but for those of you who arent...
Zephyr is a 4.5 year old green iguana .I got him over a year ago on March 24th,2003. Zephyrs first owner,a lady a few towns over from where I got Zephyr,assumingly bought him as a cute baby hatchling at a petstore. Once he began growing, he also developed an abscess on his face. Like a good owner, she took him to the vet, right? No. Zephyr (at this time his name was 'Rex') was dumped at a local petstore like old garbage to become somebody elses problem. My friends parents bought him, got him his needed vet care, and intended to find him a new home. More then a year later, I met 'Iggy' still living in a childs room at my friends house. At this time, "Iggy" was over 3 feet long and needed a large, custom made enclosure. He was housed in a 55g aquarium with improper lighting, heating, and humidity. His diet consisted of dry dog food. He was given to me because my friends family did not want him, and I did. My vet ran bloodwork on Zephyr and found his levels to be 4 times what they should have been. Zephyr suffered from MBD. This weakened his bones to the point that claws and fingers were ripped off just by climbing, he broke bones very easily (and they rehealed improperly). You can see a rehealed rib bone on his side, and his fingers and toes are warped and twisted and floppy or unusable. He is missing many spikes,and the ones he has are short, bent, and weak. He has a scar or two on his tail from who-knows-what, as well as healed burns on his back that appear to be from improper heat/light sources. The burn spots look like melted plastic, as the scales melted together. He is 3'4" long and weighs between 4 and 5 pounds. He is not growing, either. He is permanently stunted. I got Zephyr in March, but it took until July that he began eating healthy food-collard greens, mustard greens, dandelion greens, hibiscus leaves and flowers, endive, escarole, squash, green beans, fruits, etc. I had to puree these salads and syringe feed him. It payed off: today he eats like a pig!
