Found a Baby pink lizard, and i don't know how to take care of him

sharper Jul 15, 2004 07:49 PM

Hi There!
I really would love some advice on how to take care of a baby lizard.

I found a pink lizard with little stripes on his tail in my house today. He is about an inch long from head to tail. And he's so little and pink that I can see right through him. I know nothing about taking care of lizards but I would love to raise him. I have no problem with feeding crickets and mealworms but...he's so little!!! What can I possibly feed him for his size?
Also, I would like to find out what kind of lizard he is. I wonder if anyone knows what lizard has a striped tail. I am in East Texas area, if that gives any clue.
Any care information would be great!
Thanks!
Steph

Sounds like you have found a house gecko. I also live in east texas and we have them in abundance here. lol. Try going to the "gecko" forum and asking them there. I am pretty sure baby crickets (which if you live in E.T. this time of year they are EVERYWHERE) will work for him. But just to be on the safe side go to the Gecko forum and post there. I think they call them Medeteranian house geckos. Could be wrong. Is there any way for you to post a picture of it? When and if you do please be sure to get a pic of its feet (so they can see if it has toe pads) heehee.

yes it is probably a baby mediteranian gecko.but you need to make sure it can climb glass because if it can not then you might have a baby banded gecko.do iits eyes ever close.if not then you have a mediteranian gecko.if it does you dont have a climbing gecko you probably have a banded gecko or other lizard.as for food if you can find small enough crickets then use those.try collecting food from around a porch light as lots of little insects can be found around them.also you might try ants but only put a fe in at a time.a good rule is to not feed the lizard anything over the size of half its head if possible.hope this helps

Thanks for the advice!

He does have little pads on his feet, and he gets halfway up the glass alot. I haven't seen him climb all the way to the ceiling. I looked up the house gecko and seen pictures of the adult size, and it looks exactly what he's going to be. I'm pretty sure it is him. However, I haven't really paid attention to see if his eyes close. I have only seem them open and he has creepy alligator eyes with slits in them. (You can tell I have never owned a lizard in my life, huh?) I've caught some insects on the back porch for him the other night, but he hasn't eaten them. I just remove them when they die and put some more in. I'll try to find some baby crickets at the store, but I don't think that they have them that small.
I'll look up the banded gecko too, just to be sure. And I'll check out that gecko forum.
Thanks!
Steph
