I have been using Zoomed Repti Cage Carpet for my northern ringneck snake and other small snake few years already, but I am tired of those cleaning and drying work. Has anyone try the disposable cage liners yet, will someone please list all the pros and cons of this disposable product, any comments will be highly appreciated.

peper towels, aspen, or newspaper works best. i have no experience with anything else. but with small species of snake i have always used some cactus potting soil that you get a wal-mart. it has no fertilizer or anything like that. You can use other potting soil as long a there are no fertilizers i it.

In my humble opinion

Paper towel --- one ply is too thin in case the snake spill the water when it battle with the salamander but too many ply will let the worms/salamanders get under it. It happens to me that the salamander will splash a lot of water from the water bowl when the snake try to pursuing it. The need to change the paper towel too often is troublesome.

Aspen --- ??? Is that some kind of tree leaves, never try that before and I dont want to let the snake hiding just anywhere it want.

Newspaper --- I worry the lead in the print may harm the snake in the long run and it don't look natural.

Soil --- prone to bacteria and fungus build up. We never able to create the perfect ecosystem in the tank and the bacteria will keep growing without control because of the moisture.

Repti cage carpet --- good choice with different color to choose from but I hate the cleaning job. The color of the carpet is quite appealing.

Disposable cage liners --- I have no experience and still need some opinion.

For all of my northern ringneck snakes, I use either soil, or a bark/soil mixture. I've never had a problem with using soil, my snakes never developed diseases or deformities, or anything from living their lives on soil. For my garter snakes I use paper towel, napkins, or careFRESH. It doesn't look natural at all, but I just don't like using soil with garters.

I'd go with soil if I were you.
