Ok, so I have the ceramic heat thing running all day along with the light that you also leave on during the day ( for uva or uvb?) This weekend I'm getting a 5' by 17" tank. What other lighting sources do i need. Please be specific. You all kind of lost me in the other post. Probably because i'm a looney :-|
Thanks,
Mark

I forgot, why exactly do you need heat all day long? You really just need a basking spot flood, and something for UVB. No need for uber-exotic lighting solutions.

Ok, So I'll get a repti- basking spot lamp and still use my uvb. Thats all I need? I'll keep the ceramic heater for when the temp drops too low on winter nights. That's It? :-p
Thanks,
Mark

Yes sir. I tried to hardware store flood lamps, but they didn't provide enough heat IMHO. The pet store basking lamps do burn out in 2-3 months, but I can get 120F (give or take a few degrees) temps on the basking spot with them.

I'm no ceramic heater guru, but as long as it doesn't get super chilly in the winter time, it's up to you whether to use it or not. Just keep an eye on the temps, as these guys love the daytime heat!

I've had good luck with halogen flood lamps from the hardware store. I can get a higher temp with lower wattages. Be sure to use a ceramic socket, though - they burn very hot for the watts!!
