I guess the good old standard black rat would be the easiest, but I`m no expert on breeding. The yellow as you mentioned along with the gray are also good choices I think.

and for a beginner, they are the easiest snake out there. Plus all the color morphs available.

I agree...they are the most forgiving of our mistakes, and they are very beautiful.

Another good point is that they mature and breed at a much smaller size than Black or yellows.

I'll just agree with what others have said and vote for a corn snake. They are hardy, easy to house, and very easy to breed (harder to NOT breed actually ). They also come in a wide variety of pattern and color morphs and most are not very expensive. Obsoleta are good too but are on average a bit less calm than corns.

Good Luck!

I would still go for the normal black rat (non Texas type). I have owned many corns who were not as steady eaters as a BR snake are. Sure they are more colorfull but the normal BR are just as calm. I regularly remove BR from area barns, yards, etc. if people do not want them around and have never been bitten by a WILD one yet. If you want color and flash go with the corn snake. If you want sure and steadly go with the black rat snake IMHO.

thanks for all the replys everyone.as for the snake i dont really want a flashy one but a steady feeder.i also just prefer the black and yellow ratsnakes to corns.my little sis has a okeetee corn so i know they are good animals but ive always been more interested in the ratsnakes.so i think i will start with a black rat snake pair.im planning on building a custom cage for the pair to live in with plenty of hight.how do i go about cooling these snakes or do i need to hibernate them?thanks for your time and help
