how many should i put in a forty gallon breeder? its 36"L x 18"W x 12"H

Those are the dimensions of a 30 long actually. A 40 breeder is 36x18x16.

Well if you both correctly listed the dimensions, the leos have the same amount of floorspace. I have a 40 breeder and I currently have 5 females in there. Once I begin breeding them I will be going down to three females and a male (the rest will get moved to a different cage. I usually follow the 10 gal per leo rule, but with sub adults and hatchlings you can usually fit more.
