What is the difference between axanthic & anerythristic in L.g.f.brooksi?

john_org Jul 16, 2004 04:45 AM

Is there a difference? Are there two seperate lines or have people usd these interchangably? I understand the dictionary difference, axanthic is the absence of yellow pigmentation & anerythristic is the absence of red pigmentation in the phenotype.

Two forms occured seperately in the wild. The yellow (more common)and the black and white (rare) which was collected around Turkey point. Beyond that it has been generations of selected breeding to produce what you see today.

Aninteresting parallel is the wild anery pop of Red Rat snakes that occur in the Hendry Co. area that is completely surrounded by "normal" Reds which are the ancestoral stock for what you see today.
