Does lizards (and other herps for that matter) have tastebuds??? Just curious.

Their tongues are used for kind of smelling or checking out their environment. But they do have some taste buds, some have them in the roof of the mouth, I believe monitors do.

But they are considered weak.

The tongue of the lizard varies with the species. Generally speaking it is mobile, and protrusible.

Taste buds are poorly developed. Protrusion of the tongue is primarily for bringing scent particles to the Jacobson's organ for (olfaction, which is just a word meaning, sense of smell)
