fat tail humidity box

mblons Jul 16, 2004 01:28 PM

I did not receive reply to earlier post regarding overhead heat for fattails and size of humidity box. I am patient and notice there have been no other posts since mine so activity on this forum seems low. As to the humidity box, I don't want a second cage inside the tank and wonder what other people use. I have geckos on cage liner.

The hide I use for my banded gecko is a small clay pot, and reptile carpet for substrate. Inside to the roof of the hide I have attached a small aquarium filter bag filled with vermiculite. I moisten the bag periodically. This method works well with overhead heat. I like it especially since the vermiculite doesn't get scattered around by the gecko, and you can't see the bag from outside the hide box. Also it doesn't get soiled, and the humidity goes directly into the air instead of the substrate. He has never had a bad shed in the year I have had him. I think this would work for your setup, just need to moisten the vermiculite more than I do for my banded.

Thanks so much. I'll try it.
