POLL: What substrate do you use

milwaukeereptile Jul 16, 2004 03:14 PM

I'm just curious as to what substrate everyone is using for their leos. I'll get started by saying I use nothing in my rack systems (just the plastic). They seem to do alright with this and hasn't stopped any of them from moving around. In my cages I use either a felt or fabric from the local fabric store. I like the fabric because it's cheap, comes in multiple colors, and doesn't have anything for the leos to get their toes stuck on. The felt is kind of compressed, so it's fine for adults, and they don't get stuck on it either. Anyway, just curious to see what everyone uses and why (obviously we know why for some of the popular substrates...ex paper towel). Thanks.

I use about 1/8" playsand (and fake rocks for climbing and hiding)in the big display with my 5 groups of female breeders. I use papertowel in my sterilites (rack system), those are hatchlings and my males. I am building some new enclosures for the males...they will have the sand and fake rock like the females.

When I had geckos I used calcium sand then I started using regular sand, but I'm going to get another few leos and use probably regular sand bc I think they look good with sand not wood chips and they like sand also mine i believe didn't come from a good pet store and they died like 2 months after I got them but they were awesome
