Hi Melonhead - same name they give to Pilot Whales (Globicephala macrorhynchus)....

Now for V. melinus, yes there is reading material on this species re: captive husbandry and another on breeding successfully in captivity. A marvelous semi-aquatic species...
and I have all of the following in my files as well:

Bayless, M.K. and J.A. Adragna. 1999. The Banggai Island
Monitor: notes on distribution, ecology, and diet in Varanus melinus. Vivarium Mag., June/July, 10(4):38-40.

Since I wrote my Vivarium article on V. melinus, I procurred 1.1 V. melinus, which sadly arrived to my home DOA, so I prepared one of the skulls (male) to compare/contrast it with other V. indicus-like skulls - and side by side, you cannot tell them apart, and they are fish eaters for the most part; one should be wary that fish helminths (= worms) can be a source of infection in reptiles (Sandosham, 1957).

Good Luck, a marvelous but secretive species...
