Did they reclassify them in the Boa Family I remember them as Ringed Pythons or Bismark Ringed Pythons, Either way beautiful. I only asked because you mentioned them as L. Boas, not sure if that was a joke or not, they change things so quick now a days
Thanks

Hi Jim,
They actually did reclassify them. They are called :Liasis Boa.Doesn't make sense to me.They are a cool little snake.I can remember when a baby was about 2 or 3 grand. They are the most curious little things.
I too remember when they were super expensive. I remember a friend who had trade a bunch of other snakes plus paid I think $900.00 per head for babies in a group of 10 and we all thought what a great deal he got them LOL. They are beautiful right from the egg, Not sure why they went to the Boa catagory, but we needed a few good egg layers to round things out LOL

'boa' is just Latin for 'water snake'. The fact that the species name is boa doesn't make them a Boa! The genus they're in, Liasis, contains several other genuine pythons like the white lipped.
For an example, if they discovered a new kind of rainbow boa tomorrow, they could choose to name it 'Epicrates python'. It would still be a full fledged Boa, along with the other members of its genus like cenchria. It would just have a misleading name.
Also, Eryx colubrinus is still a sand boa and not a Colubrid. And Boa constrictor and Coluber constrictor are in 2 different families even though they share a species name.
(Ringed pythons have always been named boa, their former name was Bothrochilus boa, except spelled correctly)
Anyway, there are PLENTY of perfectly good egg laying boas, if you count 2 as plenty.

Eryx - All the fun of a boa in a convenient pocket size!
I love Ringed Pythons (aka Liasis boas)...I have 2.2 unrelated pairs that I couldn't be happier with. What was their previous scientific name? (I can't remember). I can't believe they cost so much? I always wondered why Ringeds were so much less but Black headed pythons are more costly (I guess I always pictured similar husbandry req'ts for them).
Anyway, Here is my older female (she's turning out almost all black).

Meanwhile, here is my older male (he's got lots more contrast).

Sincerely,
Jason
