Horned lizards sleep lots?

TheBigMacAttack Jul 16, 2004 07:24 PM

i have this horned lizard, and it appears to be sleeping lots. im wondering if its sick or not getting enough food. i try to feed it ants and bugs every day, its about 2 inches in length atm. whenever i look at it it seems to be sleeping, it has its eyes closed and i can handle it and itll often stay asleep. it will wake up for short periods though, to hunt bugs or to find somewhere else to sleep at. i keep it at room temperature, 75-80 degrees during the day, and it gets water, sometimes sleeping in the bowl. its color tends to range from tan to really light tan, and sometimes a dark muddy tan color.
is this normal behaviour or strange?

It is probably it's defense mechanism. When they sense danger they "sleep" or hide.
You need to get the right UVA/UVB light which will also provide him heat. If you don't do this you will surely kill him very slowly.
