Cause of Death?

lzrdthing Jul 16, 2004 08:46 PM

My 3-4 old male beardie just died today. I am curious as to the cause of death. I very recently (two weeks ago) took him to the vet, she said he was an incredibly healthy looking animal, and ready to breed. I have no clues except that white markings appeared on his head shortly after death. Any hints as to what may of happened? I loved this animal, and only wish to find out if I did anything wrong.

So sorry about your loss.

I really don't know what the white marks might have meant, if anything. If you didn't have any other clues, the only sure way to know what happened is to have your vet do a necropsy.

Again, very sorry you lost your little friend.

Has he been in excessive heat or direct sunlight? How do you give him water?

He was under an 150 watt heat lamp when he died. I offered him water by spraying him and with a water bowl in his cage. He could have easily reached it.

What was the temp under that lamp? Just asking because I have seen dragons in pet stores in with Uros that had white splotches on their heads, and I am almost positive it was due to the fact that the basking temp was 135 degrees. Somebody posted the contact info to a place you could get a free autopsy the other day, maybe you should start a seperate post and ask about it. I am sorry about your loss.

I just upgraded about a month ago from a 100w bulb to a 150w bulb, the temprature with the 100w was about 98-100F and I read beardies like a basking spot around 110F, I have not had a chance to measure the temprature yet, I am away from home right now so I can't do it yet. Thank you for your simpathy.

Sorry about your beardie.

If I read this right you replaced the basking bulb and never measured the temps with the new bulb. I hope that's not right but if it is, not knowing the temp of your basking spot may be what killed your beardie.
