RES sneezing....

trish Jul 16, 2004 08:57 PM

I think my RES may be sick. He seems to be sneezing or coughing and it just started today. Actually, when I put him back in his tank after cleaning it. He has sneezed about 20 times in the past 5 hours. He has never done that before. Its loud too, I can hear it when I am in another room. The water temp is 78 and the basking area is 85, although he has not been basking for about a week now. He seemed ok otherwise with a healthy appetite and he is swimming around. Can anyone tell me how he may have gotten sick? And also, at what point do I take him to the vet? He has no bubbles coming out of his nose and I listened to him breathe and I heard no sounds coming from his nose. All advice is very much appreciated. Thanks.

Trish

I just saw him and it comes from his mouth. Either out of water or in the water it seems when it happens it blows him backwards and alot of bubbles come out of his mouth. Would hiccups be impossible for him to have? Also, does anyone know of any good herp vets in NJ?

Sounds like respritory problems to me. The rescue I got did that, my advice would be to raise the temp to around or slightly above 85 degrees and get him to the vet asap.

You might try this herp vet list to see if there is one in your area.
