Never really been one for keeping lizards (although I've had my share of Chameleons/B.Dragons) but I like seeing them in the wild. Anyway, this looks like some kind of skink? I'm not up on the herps of St. Johns. What I can't really figure out is HOW there are no snakes on the island? There is an abundance of anoles and other prey? PLUS Mongoose are plentiful predators? Seems like a missing link in the food chain. Enjoy.

There are snakes on St Thomas,I would be surprised if there was not on St John. Were you told that, or did you just not see any??

"There are snakes on St Thomas,I would be surprised if there was not on St John. Were you told that, or did you just not see any?"

Both...I was told by many locals PLUS I did not see any (which is no surprise since I seem to emit some type of anti-snake signal when looking for them in the wild.lol)

What types of snakes are on St.Thomas? I really can't imagine that there aren't any snakes at all in what appeared to be prime habitat for them. I doubt customs can control stowaway snakes so well.

I kept two different types living there, when I was a kid.One was a burrowing blindsnake of some type. The more common was called by the locals a "Groundsnake".Unfortunately,I never got a true ID. http://evo.bio.psu.edu/caribherp/ I did find this site, but it has no photos....
