Quick Question

Hetfield6J Jul 17, 2004 12:27 AM

My new ball python has been doing something that is really bothering me the last few days. At night, it tries to climb up the side of the glass, and get out, but when it gets to the screen top, and cant get out, it will eventually fall over, pretty hard. Its Loud enough to startle me sometimes. I really dont want him to hurt himself, anyone seen this before?

as far as I know they all "try" to get out even my 10 year old. The little ones do tend to fall alot, I wouldn't worry too much doesn't look like you have any sharp stuff in the cage.

Maybe the ball doesn't like the big front view. Mine are all kept in large Rubbermaid plastic clear boxes with all sides painted over in white ( use artist "gesso"; it dries in 10 minutes and allows for a quick second coat. Let it air out for an hour and it's ready. You can do the same for your glass tank, but it'll take longer. In my opinion balls don't like being in the limelight.

I have vision cages for my snakes and the model I have there is about a 2-3 inch groove both on top and the bottom where the glass doors are placed. He likes to climb up and get on this lip of the cage and for some reason almost always falls down. an 18 inch fall for him. He never seems to be hurt afterwards and almost always goes back up for a second and third try. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

I have seen this in my Ball and Hogg Island. One of my hognose sometimes does this as well. Eliminate all sharp objects and move the hide log so that it is a little less "open". Balls don't enjoy being out in the open.

Take a piece of cardboard about 6" tall and tape it across the bottom front of your tank. If you wre to use aspen bedding you could stuff it in the hides and make them tighter.

Mine does that sometimes. I find that feeding it makes it stop. Although, you don't want to overfeed of course.
