gavinclews Jul 17, 2004 07:05 AM

My eggs are nearly 5 weeks old. They were doing fine until today when 2 of the eggs look more deflated and squashy than usual. They are all fertile and i have made sure that they are watered properly. The humidity in the incubator is about 70. do you think that maybee i have given them too much water?? i dont know if this is possible or not. help. i dont know what it could be!

Usually when an egg looks deflated it is because it isn't a good egg. Sometimes good eggs can get dents in them from lack of humidity. You can try spraying some water on the lid of the container the eggs are in to increase humidity, just make sure it is not so much that it will drip on the eggs. If the eggs resume their form they are probably OK. You can leave them in there until you are positive. If they are bad they will discolor and begin to mold.

I thought that but with the eggs only a few weeks away from hatching, if they were bad then they would have gone bad already. Its not humidity or anything like that

Eggs can go bad at any stage for various reasons. At 5 weeks you could still have 5-6 weeks to go so the eggs are really only half way there. Eggs can hatch anywhere from 50-90 days after they are laid. I had several eggs go 86 days this year. Never think that an eggs is in the clear until you see a dragon coming out of it.
