Anyone else own a rough green?

Buddy25 Jul 17, 2004 09:44 AM

Hey all,
Well all I can say is I'm extatic as my parents actually allowed me to buy myself a snake.

The main factors being;
- the snakes an insectivore
- the snakes great price
- my variety of already owned herp products(all I needed was the
snake)

Ya so anywho, my lil guy/girl is over two feet, and supposedly feeds well on guppies(a guppy dissapeared from his water bowl, but if he just jumped out and blended in to the bed-a-beast is a mystery to me,lol). S/he is very calm! The only physical problem I see with her is her anus in which almost seems a little infected, or was infected(wild caught,...figures). It looks as if it is scabbing over though ,and polysporin should do the trick!

I've moved him into a 29gal planted with live, and fake plants, etc! He seems to be enjoying his tank alot.

I'm very happy with him. And if anyone else owns one I have a question, is he supposed to enjoy just staying still in the plants(Will he stalk insects/food when he becomes hungry)?And does anyone know what colour rough green's feces is supposed to look like, because I'm pretty sure my little guy had white poop.

Have a nice day,
and thanks for the help and listening to me blabber

What idiot told you they eat guppies? I have caught and kept dozens of rough greens and what they eat is insects. Go out and buy it some crickets.

the white poop is uric acid. It is normal for feces to be zonned part white/part dark in reptiles. get a misting bottle, greens need to be misted to be their best.

Also..Buy a good snake book so you don't have to deal with stuip pet shop sales people. There are two handy guides to this species that are cheap and available.

yes go out and buy the avs book about rough greens.it includes excellent care info.also they do not eat guppies.get some crickets adn if you can find them collect some caterpillars from around a place where no one has sprayed for insects.these snakes love caterpillars in my experience.also if you ever get into breeding these snakes it is not that hard from what ive heard as all they need is a slight winter cooling.hope this helps
