Conjoined Twins (Caution... disturbing images)

Sasheena Jul 17, 2004 09:54 AM

Well I finally got some pictures.. they aren't very good, and I did mess with the contrast and brightness so that it was clear what is in the image.

These poor little guys had their own distinct tails (severely kinked, and fused into solid loops). Around the area of the heart the body cavities were opened... with the single joint heart outside the body and visibly beating.... then they were joined from above the heart all the way up to the head, which ended in a mouth of a truly alien nature. The mouth had four sides... top and bottom were the heads of the two babies... and on either side the bottom jaws..... linking their mouths together so in the end it had one huge mouth with four moving sides.

When i pulled it from the egg it seemed obvious something was wrong. Several of the deformed siblings from other eggs actually looked they were in the process of EATING their yolks (shortened heads, shortened or missing lower jaws)... but these guys looked like they were eating each other! Then I saw the little beating heart.... and I felt SO BAD for these guys... they were so badly kinked and deformed that they couldn't move a single muscle (perhaps paralyzed, or missing any sort of brain/muscle control?)... if they hadn't had that beating heart, I would have been convinced they were dead.

I froze them..... anyone wants the remains for scientific research should contact me. Totally bizarre though.

Here's one of the pictures. I'll post a couple others...remember they are NOT the best pictures, but they WERE the best I could do at the time.

This one turned out pretty good to demonstrate just how bizarre this snake is!
