Lobster roach question....

leoking182 Jul 17, 2004 11:21 AM

I seen that someone had there hissers on aspen bedding is it ok to keep lobster roaches on it also? I have another question though I have 2 bearded dragons, and like soon to be 5 or so leopard geckos, and I want to have a lot of food so I don't have to constantly buy, so I want to buy a lot and breed but my concern is will they just BREED the hell out eachother, and in a month i'll have like 2,000, see I don't really want that, but which should I get 100, 200, or 500. Thank you for any replies.

I keep mine on a couple inches of shavings in the bottom of the tub and layers of egg carton and papertowel tubes. Lots of levels. You will have a ton of lobsters. They will breed, heat or not in my experience and yes, you will have thousands. Start with fewer (100) and it will take longer for them to get ahead of you.

I keep my lobsters on no substrate. It’s a lot easier to clean. I also have many layers of egg crates and paper towel rolls. I agree with Sonya start with 100 because you’ll have a LOT in no time.

See now, when I put mine in without a layer of shavings the tub got dirtier faster and usually wetter too. Don't know why. I do have a higher humidity room (basement in NY) so maybe that is it. Plus I found that the babies hide better in the shavings. But hey.

I use no subsrate as well, The roaches don't require it, it's a pain in the butt to get the babies out and it's just one more thing to clean. I have been breeding them by the thousands with no substrate at all, just lots of egg crate and when the floor of the cage gets dirty I just push the egg crate to one side and sweep out the bottom.

My 2 cents worth...
