need help finding expanded PVC...

sam4snakes Jun 21, 2003 07:27 PM

Can this be found in sheets at the local Home Depot? What size sheets does it come in? How expensive is it? Is this a good material to build a cage out of? Do you use PVC cement to join it or do you use screws? Thanks for any help anyone can give me.
Sam

I'm interested in this product myself but have never played with it. The stuff looks like it could be extremely useful for buidling cages and much cheap than acrylic of the same thickness.

Try http://www.usplastic.com, or if you're in/near Texas I know of a place in Dallas. The company name is at work, so email me if you're interested.

Check out these two web sites for possibly useful info:

http://www.solarbotics.net/starting/200207_sintra/200207_sintra.html

If you do use this stuff, please post your thoughts.

Check the yellow pages for sign shops and plastic shops. A local plastic place has 4'x8'x0.25" Sintra for $55/sheet. Not sure if they can get 1/2" also haven't worked with it myself. Search for posts by chris_harper2 - he has TONS of good ideas and tips.

No way does Home Depot have anything like that. But, like others stated, sign shops can get it for you, or else go to www.us-plastics.com (or usplastics, I forgot.)

Anyway, USPlastics sells a plastics welder with which you can fuse edge to surface bonds. PVC cement works great for surface to surface bonds, but not so good with edge to surface. Ask them for help.
