silkworm metamorphosis?

iamjason Jul 17, 2004 01:51 PM

today i found that i had a couple of cocoons in the container with my silkworms, so i carefully moved them to a seperate container. did i kill them by removing them from the surface they were attaced to? they were just loosely attached to a paper towel.

also how long until the moths emerge?

thanks in advance

when they first begin to spin they should be left alone a couple days b/c reorientation may cause some problems such as being unable to eclose properly, but I wouldn't worry too much . I tend to be more aware of this b/c of my lep breeding/life cycle. Just try to keep them oriented the same way they were when you moved them.

As for the silk that attaches them to a surface it will not have any negative effect at all.

it will take about 3 weeks for them to eclose.
