How do i measure and provide adequate humidity for my ball python?

Measure with a hygrometer. You can get nice digital thermometer/hygrometer combos with probes. The stick on kinds are generally unreliable.

Easiest way to provide proper humidity is to use a humidity loving substrate - I recommend BedaBeast. Also add a humid hide. A second, smaller water dish over the heating pad may help as well. Lights tend to decrease humidity so if you can avoid them do - or go with low wattages.

If using a screen lid on the snakes cage, you can cover the top outside of the lid with duct tape leaving openings for light and a small amount for ventilation and/or cover with damp towels.
