The Wrath of Grapes

michaelb Jul 17, 2004 05:53 PM

Both of my igs go absolutely crazy for grapes. They turn their attention my way whenever I open the refrigerator door, and if I take grapes out they'll go nuts at the mere sight of them. Either one would eat an entire 1-pound bag of them if I'd let 'em. I know fruit is supposed to be only a small part of their diet, but I'm wondering if anyone else has igs that go ga-ga over grapes or any other particular food item.

Today I'm recovering from a surprise attack from my male. After eating his greens, he initially gave me the I'm-ignoring-you treatment (eyes closed, "if I can't see you, you're not there" ) when I came to him with some grapes. I dangled the grapes in front of him, and without opening his eyes he ate one. Immediate change as he suddenly lunged onto me and actually bit me on the lower jaw before I could get him under control. He can be an ornery bastard, but this was totally unexpected and seemed almost like an hysterical reaction triggered by the grapes (which were still in my hand) . Now I'm going to be scarface for a while. One more example of how iguanas can get a bad rap, I suppose.

my cuban iggy chases grapes around when you roll them on the floor. It's so funny. HE will run back and forth eating them.

Just had to chime in here & say that Grass had grapes for the first time yesterday. I can usually feed her treats by hand, but lordy, when I got near her with a grape she got so overexited she tried to take my finger with it. I put a small cluster down, still on the stem, and she tore into that thing like a wildcat. It was nuts!

Wish I could've snapped a pic of the crazed look in her eyes It never fails to amaze me how much they can express just through the dilating of their puplis & raising/lowering of their lids.
