twitching... urgent??

alreynolds2003 Jul 17, 2004 06:56 PM

My cham has been twitching for the last 6 months. Last time I had a post on here some said it was a predatory thing or a way to blend in. I am convinced it is not. I KNOW there is something wrong. He twitches when I put his feed bowl by him. When I hold him and he does it, it is obvious that it is involuntary. I can feel his body vibrate a split second or two before his body twitches and it is not normal. I have seen other veileds and none have had ANYTHING like this. I am scared out of my mind right now and my vet has no clue on how to care for chameleons except for what she was taught about 15-20 years ago and I do not want him to go back there. Thanks in advance.

Is your cham getting its calcium? You do have a UV buld like the reptisun 5.0 from zoo med - right? Shaky movements is sometimes when the cham mimics a leaf blowing in the wind - but what you are saying aint it. So I THINK it may be starting to get MBD - who knows.

Every time I answer this question somebody comes along and blasts me. Twitching is a classic sypmtom of Calcium defientcy. Somebody will say that it could also be a calcium overdose but twicthing is not a symptom of Calcium overdose. I would go back to your vet a see if they can give him a calcium shot because six months is a long time to go with a lack of calcium. He will wind up with MBD soon. Good luck.

My veiled does that and I know it's not because of any illness. You say he does it when you go in and put in his dish and when you hold him. My veiled does that quick jerky twitching for a bit when I stick my arm in his cage or when I carry him or whn I move a little to fast when he's on me. It's his way of saying, "Hey, man, I'm watching you!" He didn't do it so much when he was younger, but as he got older he does it pretty frequently, cuz he's a grumpy little terd. It might be just a reaction to your presence. The way you described it, it doesn't sound like it's all the time, like he's got Parkenson's or anything. If it's continuous, like he doesn't stop, I'd really take him to a vet ASAP. Six months is way too long for a problem like that to get treated.
